Dr. Johnathan David Hawk is the Chief Operations Officer of Nevada State High School, a charter school that services 245 11th and 12th grade students getting an early college experience. Dr. Hawk’s responsibilities involve finances, governance, and facilities of the school. John was a former math teacher in the Clark County School district for 8 years after graduating from the State University of New York (SUNY) College at Fredonia in 1996. By the fall of 2001, John had earned his Master’s degree and his Doctorate Degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
While earning his graduate degrees, John was elected to the Nevada State Board of Education, where he honorably served four years. In the fall of 2004, John continued his educational work by training teachers and producing a 20-page tri-annual professional development magazine called ShopTALK to a distribution list of over 15,000 teachers and focuses on classroom strategies that increase student achievement. For the past 10 years, John has been serving the as the Chief Operations Officer for a 245 student public charter school called Nevada State High School located in Henderson, Nevada.
The school has received exemplary designations from the state of Nevada and nationally for increasing student achievement by preparing 11th and 12th grade students for college with personal, academic, and social skills necessary to be successful. In the coming years, John looks forward to expanding the school to more students throughout Southern Nevada and sharing his experience to help other educators get students better prepared for the transition to college.
